Peace by the Blood of the Cross

“Peace by the Blood of the Cross” Rev. Sherrad Hayes Colossians 1:9-20 November 24, 2019; Christ the King Sunday The true source of all our thanksgiving is the reminder of who God is and what God has done for us in Jesus Christ. The completeness of all our knowledge and all our spiritual wisdom and all our understanding consists of who God is and what God has done for us in Jesus Christ. The way in which we are able to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please him, and to bear fruit for every good work is through the knowledge of who God is and what God has done for us in Jesus Christ. The whole of our strength rests on the knowledge of who God is and what God has done for us in Jesus C

Intentions Ruth 3:1-5 & 4:13-17 Mark 12:38-44 I may have shared this with you before: The story is told of a young boy who went to church one Sunday morning - to get out of the cold weather. He’d been trying to sell newspapers, but it was a slow day & he had sold none. So he made his way into a church building, hoping to warm up and pass an hour unnoticed - on the back pew. The minister offered a stirring sermon about Jesus and his love for us. At one point during the service, as in most churches, an offering was received. As the story goes... one of the ushers stopped right in front of the boy and held out the offering plate. After a short pause... the boy took the plate, and did somethin

The Easy Way?

The Easy Way? Genesis 3:1-15 How many of you have ever started a “fad-diet” in the hopes of shedding a few pounds? Pretty much everyone right! The South Beach Diet... The Grapefruit diet... the Cabbage Soup diet (no... just, no). I’ve tried Weight Watchers and the Slim Fast diets. They all work to some degree and for a while, I suppose. The only one that really appealed to me was the “Atkins Diet” - the original one - that came out in the 1970's. I’ve always called it the “Bacon Diet” because, back then, you could eat all the bacon you wanted with Atkins. Of course, Dr. Atkins died of heart attack... but I’m sure he died happy! We all succumb to all kinds of “fads” and gimmicks - don’t we

What Matters Most?

What Matters Most? 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 Have you ever wondered what matters most to God? What is it that God looks for... what does God expect from his followers - you and me? Last Sunday (those of you who were here know that) we talked about obedience... and how Jesus said, “If you love me, you’ll obey my teaching” (John 14:15). And we DON’T shy away from Jesus’ teachings! They’re hard! Difficult! Seemingly impossible, at times! All that “turning the other cheek... going the extra mile... forgiving until we lose count” stuff. It’s not easy! But then, God’s Word also tells us in Galatians 5:6... that ultimately... “The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” Keepin
